About The Lifeline Program®

The Lifeline Program® operates under a mission and philosophy which has remained consistent since the company’s founding in 1989. Our mission:

“To manage financial transactions that are beneficial to both policy sellers and investors, help individuals facing life-changing illnesses and promote intelligent industry regulation.”

Since 1989, The Lifeline Program® has been at the leading edge of the growing life settlement industry. Founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1989, The Lifeline Program began with a very simple mission: to assist terminally ill patients. Through a transaction called a viatical settlement, the company helped terminally ill patients (most suffered from AIDS) sell their life insurance policies for immediate cash. The transactions were classic win-win situations. The terminally ill patients received money to pay medical bills and were able to live out their lives with dignity while the company’s investors earned profitable returns. In addition, the company’s employees knew that every day they helped someone improve their life.

In the mid-1990s as AIDS drugs improved, The Lifeline Program reinvented itself as a settlement company for individuals with mainstream ailments such as cancer and heart disease. At the same time, the company led efforts nationwide to promote and create intelligent industry regulation, most notably legislation that created licensing requirements around the country.

In recent years, the company has focused its efforts on the growing life settlement industry, sometimes referred to as senior settlements. A life settlement is the sale of a life insurance policy to a third party for a present value of the net death benefit. Transactions of this nature can be extremely useful for high-net worth seniors. The company has been performing life settlements since 2001, but the industry has matured in recent years as institutional investors have learned the value of the transactions and invested in top provider companies like ours.

In a typical transaction, an elderly policyholder may sell a term life, whole life, universal life, variable life or joint/survivorship policy for a percentage of its face value. This percentage is based on a projected life expectancy though the policyholder need not be terminally ill. A life settlement may prove desirable in a number of situations including when a policy is: under-performing, no-longer needed or too expensive. Changes in business circumstances or tax requirements may also create a need to sell a policy.

Today, operating from its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, The Lifeline Program is the preeminent life and senior settlement company in the United States. Thousands of individual policyholders and investors have benefited from the company’s commitment to professionalism and premier business practices.
