For those of you who are not aware, several prominent insurance industry associations, including ACLI, AALU, NAIFA and NAILBA, have recently lent their support to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) proposed amendments to its Viatical Settlements Model Act (which relates to Life Settlements, as well, despite its name). While it is important to note that the NAIC Viatical Settlements Model Act is still just a model for legislation that state legislatures and regulatory bodies may or may not choose to adopt, the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) has announced its opposition to these proposed amendments. And, while we consider our viewpoints to be a bit more progressive on some of the issues, we support LISA's interest in presenting the facts to those who would be affected by the proposed changes. As a likely member of one or more of those organizations, we believe it is essential for you to find out more about the NAIC Viatical Settlements Model Act and how the perspectives and stances held by those industry associations may affect your business. For more information, you can visit LISA online at www.lisassociation.org or contact LISA directly at 407.894.3797 DON'T FORGET TO TUNE INTO SCOTT PAGE'S BLOG, INSIDE LIFELINE, FOR PERSPECTIVES ON THE LATEST INDUSTRY ISSUES AND NEWS.
