Indiana's House of Representatives passed legislation last month that will regulate Life Settlements in that state, however, it is worth noting that the legislation that was ultimately passed is a slightly stripped down version of the original. The version that was adopted does not impose a five-year waiting period before new policies can be settled.

The original version of the legislation, proposed by Rep. Michael Ripley, combined elements from the Life Settlement model acts developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) to create what he believed to be the strongest possible combination of the two model acts. His colleagues agreed with him - but not quite to the extent of creating a five-year waiting period before settling a policy.

On the other hand, Ohio's House of Representatives did adopt a bill that will impose a five-year waiting period before any new life insurance policies could be settled, and will also require life expectancy companies to register with their state insurance department. This bill will next be voted on by Ohio's Senate.

The five-year waiting period proposal came from a Life Settlements model act developed by the NAIC. The five-year waiting period is generally opposed by the Life Settlement industry.

While we value, respect and recognize the importance of all our policy sources, last year for the first time ever we sought to recognize those individuals who contribute most to The Lifeline Program's® unmatched success in the industry. For that reason, we congratulate our Top 15 producers based on the value by the volume of policies they submitted and closed in 2007. These individuals now receive our highest level of commitment and attention through our Platinum Processing Service program. Most importantly, they deserve our heartfelt admiration and thanks.

The Lifeline Program® was founded almost twenty years ago on a very simple principle - help people maintain dignity and self-respect during difficult times. Although our mission has shifted somewhat over the years, our desire to help others remains extremely strong. To give back to our community, last year we supported several noteworthy and worthwhile charitable causes.
First and perhaps most importantly, during the holiday season we adopted a local family through the Families First organization. Their Adopt-a-Family for Christmas program is intended to bring joy and holiday cheer to the lives of low-income families. As part of our involvement, we provided a mother and her three children an array of presents and goodies so that they could enjoy many of the holiday traditions we often take for granted.

Second, we contributed to the Ape Conservation Effort, a charitable group dedicated to saving the world's great apes from extinction. We were introduced to the passionate individuals behind this organization during their presentation at the 2007 Lifeline Life Settlement Forum reception held at Zoo Atlanta's Gorilla Conservation Center. Our contribution will help fund ACE's work in Africa and Indonesia to save great apes from extinction and conserve their native habitats.

Our interactions with ACE and the strength and conviction of their compelling message also led us to adopt a mother and infant mountain gorilla through the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. The proceeds from the adoption go directly to support the protection of gorillas worldwide. While 2007 was a monumental year for The Lifeline Program®, we are just as proud to support these organizations as we are of our business successes.

NAME    Elizabeth Perez-Jacome
POSITION    Business Processor

I recently joined The Lifeline Program® team as a Business Processor. With 15 years of experience in the mortgage industry processing residential loans, it was easy for me to transfer my processing knowledge in that field and apply it to my current role within the company.

My current job functions include processing and inputting new cases into our internal ISS System, I also help our internal medical review department in ordering Life Expectancies. These functions of my job require me to work closely with our sales, internal medical review, and underwriting departments on a daily basis.

The Lifeline Program® is full of great people and great opportunities. The relationships I've established with my co-workers have helped make my transition a smooth one. I also appreciate my teammates' drive and willingness to help one another get things done quickly; for the good of the company and our clients.
